While the video itself is entertaining and educational,  it is only tangentially related to the core question, which requires you to describe a time when practice trumped theory. Candidates should resist the temptation to fawn on CBS and laud the Master Class and should instead focus on providing an example of such a case.An obvious starting point for candidates is to consider times when they have learned something theoretically. However, you need not only think of times when you were in a college classroom or some sort of corporate training event. You should expand your concept of theory to include all times when you were presented with or considered ideas. Indeed, a commentator on TV or the fellow who owns the breakfast shop that you frequent (not to forget your own times of reflection and imagination) can all present valid theories t hat you have actually put into practice. You should certainly show that you were/are open to ideas and that you are willing to test them. However, it is the process of testing that you, like CBS, should emphasize. So, if the first part of your essay is an explanation of how you were captivated by an idea, the second part should be the testing and learning. Clearly, we need to understand a contrast between these two phases in order to validate the argument that CBS presents. In this essay question, CBS does not explicitly ask for your key learnings, but it is appropriate for you to offer them nonetheless. By reflecting on your experience, you will emphasize the power of practice, in teaching/learning enduring lessons. Please provide an example of a team failure of which you’ve been a part. If given a second chance, what would you do differently? (Recommended 500 word limit) : The crucial word in this essay question is “team.” Indeed, this is not a question about an individual failure. So, you should not attempt to stretch an essay about an individual failure to fit this question. You should, instead, attempt to identify a time when a team did not achieve its desired results (it will be important to “show” this time through a narrative structure) and analyze how and where the breakdown occurred, generally being diplomatic about assessing responsibility and sharing some of the “blame” yourself. It is important to note that a team failure does not need to be the story of a chaotic breakdown with people throwing chairs at each other. A failure can occur due to a passive approach to a problem â€" for example, the team does not understand its responsibilities and those senior to the team are not empowering the team to make choices. Regardless of the nature of the failure itself, it will be important for you to show that you have a nuanced understanding of the dynamics and that you are able to reflect and present a compelling theory (yes, theory!) for how you would have otherwise approached this situation. Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005) supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Self Destructive Behavior and Role of the I function The I function describes all behavior associated with the notion of self. Is there really a specific I function and what is its role exactly? Because the I function is linked to the self, one would think that it would prevent harmful behaviors. However, there are cases where the I function does not intervene to terminate detrimental actions for example addiction and a mental disorder called Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. In both cases, a person is harming themselves and can not seem to stop. Does the I function play a role in self-destructive behavior? This increase corresponds with satisfaction or reward (3). There is evidence of a mutation of the dopamine receptor gene (D2A1) in alcoholics. This mutation was present in 69% of severe alcoholics and 20% of non-alcoholics (4). This mutation does not mean that alcoholism is always genetic. The study was also done on Vietnam Veterans who had post-traumatic stress disorder due to severe combat conditions (4). This mutation was found in 40%-55% of these patients (4). Veterans were not born to go to war so the mutation could be caused by a chemical change due to the bodyis response to high stress. One hypothesis is that the D2A1 is affecting the degree of expression of the genes that are involved with addictive behaviors. The genes have not yet been identified (4). Dopamine is associated with seratonin. Seratonin is affiliated with the part of the brain responsible for controlling emotions, paying attention, and thinking before acting (4). Research was done to determine whether or not alcoholics had seratonin abnormalities. A mutation of an enzyme, tryptophan oxygenase is hypothesized to be the cause of abnormal seratonin amounts in the blood stream of alcoholics and patients suffering from other mental disorders all of which exhibit addictive behaviors (4). Death Foretold and The House of the Spirits Essay The Significance of Names in the Plots of Chronicle of a Death Foretold and The House of the Spirits In Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Marquez uses actual names that appear to be non-symbolic with a minor exception. The way that Marquez uses names adds more to the uniqueness of the truth and falsehood of the plot. Conversely, in The House of the Spirits by Isabella Allende, names are very significant and symbolic. The House of the Spirits contains names that clearly symbolize that persons role and possible fate in the novel. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, the plot involves much confusion and lacks chronological order; the novel shows subliminal confusion both in the structure and the climax of the novel. Names in the novel add to the confusion by bringing reality amidst magical realism, fictions and fantasy. The word chronicle means to record in a timely order, however, the book is actually told through the eyes of many viewers of the Santiago Nasaar murder in a non-sequential order, for it contradicts the title and presents situational irony. Chronicle of a Death Foretold does indeed encompass an actual event (Nasaars murder) that has occurred, so the plot can be seen as more of a realistic one based on that asset. However, this reality, which is in part projected by real names (Angela Vicario, Pedro Vicario, Bayardo San Roman, etc. ), adds confusion to the plot because it conflicts Hopper 2 with the magical realism that is promoted in the book. Magical realism is represented by multiple references to clairvoyance and even towards God in the novel. It is also represented by the timeline through which the story is told; the story dwells in and out of the past, future and told through many viewpoints, and through these, fantasy and fictions are presented. Names in Chronicle of a Death Foretold affect the plot by adding confusion to it. Though it seems that names have hardly any significance in the plot of Chronicle of a Death Foretold, there is an exception. To even further confuse the plot, a highly symbolic name is present in the book through the main character, Santiago Nasaar. The name Santiago is the Spanish translation for Saint, which in turn correlates to Jesus Christ in the novel respectively. Through Santiagos name, the reader is meant to perceive Santiago Nasaar as somewhat of a Jesus Christ figure. This comparison is plausible and very intriguing in that Santiagos death is foretold, just as Jesus Christs death is foretold in the Bible. Most importantly, Santiago is an innocent victim killed not because he had sex with a young girl, but because he was a foreigner and because of this, an easy target of hatred. In relation to Santiago Nasaar, Jesus Christ is also seen as an innocent figure in the Bible, for he is condemned to crucifixion for blasphemy but was really only teaching the Word of God, he is also seen as a sinless human in Christianity which further promotes his innocence. Furthermore, the townspeople prompt and carry on Santiago Nasaars death, mainly because someone has to be the scapegoat and take the blame due to Angela Vicarios loss of virginity. Even this action in the book correlates to the last hours of Jesus Christs life, for in the last of hours of Jesus Christ, his death was greatly supported by the townspeople. Hopper 3 So as Nasaar is presented as a Christ-Figure, it opposes the fact that all other names presented in the book are surprisingly non-representational.
